Almost 24 years ago, Lucasfilm created one of the largest multimedia projects ever based around a film without having a film to go with it. It was all centered around a video game produced by LucasArts which included a full blown toy line, trading cards, books, comics, posters, statuettes and of course, a full soundtrack. In addition to the story itself, the music, which was composed by Joel McNeely and recorded with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, was one of the more memorable parts from the game released both for the N64 and later for the PC.
The announcement for a special project dropped appropriately on
Star Wars Day which many old school
Star Wars fans should appreciate. Originally published by Varèse Sarabande Records in 1996, the same company is now offering the ten track
Shadows of the Empire score as part of a special reissue on CD and, for the first time ever, on LP complete with the original Drew Struzan art cover.
The CD retails for $13.98 and the LP retails for $21.98 with both being released on August 7, 2020.
