2004 International Toy Fair New York

Because one cannot live on Star Wars alone, and most of my appointments were scheduled for the next day anyway, I decided to snoop around see what else I could find of interest. I found some new collectibles from the upcoming Hellboy movie, such as PVCs, a large action figure, statues, and a metal lunchbox with the strange writings on the inside. Those familiar with the characters should get a kick out of that one.

Dark Horse will continue to release the Japanese Kotobukiya line, and the Stormtrooper (with interchangeable Luke Skywalker head) and Darth Maul were on display.

From DC Comics, figures from the popular Batman: Hush, the Dark Knight Returns, Cartoon Network's animated Teen Titans lines were on display, as well as the DC Direct figures, and an impressive pair of statues featuring Wonder Woman and Batman.

Not to be outdone, Marvel Comics displayed several of their statues, action figures, and busts, including characters from Spider-Man, X-Men, and the Avengers.

In anticipation of the upcoming film Shrek 2, Hasbro will be making a series of action figures, playsets, stuffed dolls, accessories, and Play-Doh toys. A huge variety of items compared to what was made for the first film. Our trip to Master Replicas also revealed a trio of busts of Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey from the new film.

Another new license for Master Replicas is the Lord of the Rings, and Frodo's sword Sting was on display. This sword feature a similar effect as the Force FX lightsabers, in that it includes a glowing blade and realistic sound effects.

The upcoming Aliens Vs. Predator movie is also getting the Master Replicas treatment, as two weapons from the film were on display.

Finally, while were at LEGO, we got to see a few new lines for this year, including Spider-Man 2, which will feature something new for fans...fleshtone-colored figures. Alpha Team will be a series of vehicles that will have transforming abilities, turning from one vehicle into another with just a few twists and turns. Knights Kingdom will be a cross between the normal LEGO sets and the Bionicle series, all centered on a medieval theme.

Speaking of Bionicle, there was plenty of new items on display as well, mostly focusing on the new Metru Nui series. More images in this line can be seen here and complete details are up over at MaskofDestiny.com.
