BESPIN SECURITY GUARD | |
Source: Date Stamp: 1981 Release Date: 1981 Carded Availability: The Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi Assortment No. : 69640 Retail: $2.49 Weapons and Accessories: Point of Interest: This figure first appeared on The Empire Strikes Back 41 back card. Important note: This figure was never officially referred to as 'Bespin Security Guard II'. The 'II' is used now only to differentiate between both versions made by Kenner. |
Comments: For a dude who was in one scene and didn't even talk, it's truly surprising that Kenner felt a need to produce a second Bespin Security Guard, but clearly their marketing department knew what they were doing. Though, not as iconic as its predecessor, this figure was warmly accepted by everyone buying Star Wars figures back in the day.
Major Variations: Though all vintage figures have minor variations, the Bespin Security Guard II does not have any major sculpt variations. It is of interest to note that there are spray op variations making this figure available with either very dark skin or lighter skin. Though it may seem by looking at loose examples of this figure, that it was produced with and without gold paint, nothing could be further from the truth. The figure was always intended to have the gold ribbing spray op, but like all figures sporting this gold paint, the Text & Photography by D. Martin Myatt. |
