This issue continues the official four issue adaptation of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.
As with many film adaptations, this particular issue has two scenes not included in the final film of Obi-Wan investigating Geonosis and running into a massiff, plus an extended Lars farm garage scene (which can be found on the DVD).
Published both with an artwork cover by Tsuneo Sanda and a photo cover variant.
Landing on Tatooine, Anakin and Padmé seek out Watto to help discover where Shmi is. Watto informs them that he sold her to a moisture farmer a while ago, but he will look up the name and help them find her.
Just off the ringed world of Geonosis, Jango's ship Slave I, notices that he is being tracked. His son Boba spots the Jedi Starfighter and Jango opens fire with lasers and a missle. It explodes and Jango continues on his way. What he doesn't realize is that the Jedi released some spare parts canisters to detonate the missle and hides on an asteroid until it's safe for him to land on the planet.
Anakin and Padmé arrive at the Lars moisture farm and are greeted by See-Threepio. He leads them down to Owen, Beru and Cliegg, who informs the young travelers that Anakin's mother, Shmi, was captured by a Tusken Raider hunting party recently. Anakin knows that she is alive and departs on a swoop to find her. He picks up the Tuskens trail after some help from a group of jawas, and continues on his way.
Obi-Wan works his way down from a mountain pass, dispatching a lizard-like massiff, before using his binoculars to spot a huge battalion of battle droids.
Working his way inside one of the massive spires, he discovers the droid foundries, plus an impromptu Separatist meeting. Count Dooku, Nute Gunray and members of the Commerce Guild and Corporate Alliance all pledge their support to the Separatist cause.
Back on Tatooine, Anakin discovers the remote camp of the Tusken Raiders and sneaks into the hut holding his mother. She is strung up on a wooden rack, and close to death. Anakin tries to comfort her. She tells him how proud she is just before she dies.
Anakin emerges from the hut, ignites his lightsaber and makes the entire village pay for his mother. Elsewhere Obi-Wan is having difficulty raising the Jedi Temple, and asks Arfour to try to find Anakin on Naboo.
Anakin returns to the moisture farm, with his mother wrapped in a cloth. He speaks to no one as he takes her inside. Obi-Wan discovers that Anakin is not where he expected and begins a search.
Padmé brings Anakin some food, but he can't understand how he wasn't able to save his mother. He says he will be all powerful someday and be able to stop people from dying. He believes Obi-Wan is holding him back. He then admits to Padmé that he slaughtered the entire village. She comforts him and tells him he's only human.
Obi-Wan finally discovers Anakin's whereabouts, and transmits a message to him. Artoo records it and Obi-Wan asks him to deliver it for him.
Anakin and the Lars' family say their good-byes to Shmi at a small funeral service, when Artoo interrupts with the message from Obi-Wan. The message is transmitted to Coruscant and the Jedi and Anakin both hear the story of what Obi-Wan has found and witness his encounter with a droideka before the message is cut short. Mace orders Anakin to protect the Senator, but she feels it necessary to attempt to save Obi-Wan and Anakin has no choice but to go along.
In the Supreme Chancellors office, members of the loyalist committee are gathered with the Jedi to make decisions about the use of the clone army. Jar Jar steps forward and says he will make the motion to grant the Chancellor the emergency powers he needs to make the army available.
Within a dark chamber inside Geonosis, Count Dooku is talking to an imprisoned Obi-Wan. He is trying to convince the Jedi that he is blameless in the unfolding events, and that there is a Sith in control of the Senate. Obi-Wan doesn't believe anything that he says. Dooku then asks Kenobi to join with him to defeat the Sith.
Outside, Anakin, Padmé and the droids land and enter into the foundry. A group of Geonosians jump them, and they are forced into the factory and onto a droid assembly line. Padmé is captured while Threepio manages to have his head removed and attached to a battle droid's body. Anakin becomes trapped, and frees himself only to be surrounded by Jango and some droidekas.
