According to the inside cover, the events in this issue takes place 15 months after the Battle of Geonosis.
The subtitle of this issue is "The Battle of Jabiim part one"
The majority of supporting characters names in this story arc are derived from cloud classifications: cumulus, stratus, cirrus, & nimbus. This is most likely due to the fact that the planet is perpetually deluged by precipitation.
The identification of many Jedi does not happen in this issue. Subsequent issues in this storyline reveal their names, with issue #58 giving the full names of all the major supporting Jedi.
Further information about this storyline can be found in Star Wars Insider #68 & 69. Insider #69 reveals the names of three Jedi who die in the attack of Shelter Base, Dalnus Cam, Sana-Jis Ilowa, and Rallcema Bylissura. These may be the unnamed Jedi we see dying in this issue.
This issue refers to the soldiers as Jabiimi rebels while Insider #69 calls the Jabiimite Separatists.
Commander Stratus refers to certain events that the Jedi and Republic ignored on Jabiim. These include the brainrot plague, a Trandoshian invasion and the savage killings by Lythian pirates.
On the rain soaked Outer Rim planet of Jabiim, a pair of Jabiimi rebels discuss the rumors they have heard about the evils of the Jedi. Distant noise reveals a squadron of prototype AT-AT's and other Republic armored vehicles. Anakin Skywalker and the ARC trooper Alpha overtake a pack of rebels that have been decimated by a blast. The Jedi orders Alpha not to execute the survivors, which Obi-Wan Kenobi agrees with.
As Alpha and a number of other clone troopers overrun the Jabiimi main emplacement, Kenobi sends the "Padawan Pack" to flank the rebels and prevent retreat. Kass and a male Jedi [Mak] take offense at the clones use of the slightly derogatory term.
Approaching a downed rebel, Master Sirrus and his padawan Aubrie attempt to heal his injuries. Kass and Alpha confirm that they have secured the position. Obi-Wan is disappointed that they have not found any sign of the Confederacy. He suggests they all regroup at their base camp.
Anakin is distraught at the fact that the prisoners seem to think he is some sort of monster, but Obi-Wan reminds him few beings have actually seen a Jedi in person. They do appear to be killers, but the can also be healers as Aubrie is doing to a wounded prisoner. Master Sirrus greets Kenobi and asks for some background on the "civil war" on Jabiim.
On a rainy plain, the Jabiimi Separatist Commander Alto Stratus rallies his troops, sighting various historical instances that the Republic ignored their little planet, until it was discovered that there was plenty of ore to be mined. That was when the Republic and Jedi interceded to stop these people from trading with the Confederacy of Independent Systems. He vows to defend his planet and his freedoms; and send the Jedi home in caskets!
Back at the Camp, Captain Gillmunn explains to the assembled army that Stratus took control about a year ago during a coup that killed most of the Loyalists in the congress. They have been unable to capture him due to his trained commandos, the Nimbus, as well as Dooku's Confederacy, which they Republic has found no sign of.
Alpha points out to Kenobi that each raid they make takes them further from Shelter Base and their supplies and reinforcements. He fears that the Confederacy will attack in their weak spot, killing a huge number.
With their sensors scrambled due to the raging storm, Stratus, his Nimbus Commandos and a giant army of droid fighters converge on Shelter Base, catching them unawares. An AT-AT, plus a large group of clones lead by a female Jedi are all wiped out by the sudden and massive attack. A male Jedi makes an urgent call for help before being vaporized by incoming missiles from a hailfire droid. A clone pilot asks a female Jedi for permission to call in the gunship reinforcements. She denies his request due to the weather, and then attempts to use the Force to pull out an AT-TE that is bogged down in the mud. Distracted as she is, Stratus comes up behind her and stabs his vibro-knife through her back, killing her.
Anakin and the rest of his forces arrive. He has an opportunity to take out Stratus, but the leader deflects his blow and escapes. Obi-Wan warns Alpha and his troops about the Nimbus and their repulsor boots. Alpha decides to make an example of one of the commandos, by shooting out one of the boots. The commando rockets out of control before expoding over the next rise.
The Republic manage to get one of their walkers moving, which Kenobi orders to protect the right flank. Unbeknownst to them, a squad of Nimbus commandos plant a series of charges on the walkers legs, which take the massive machine down when they explode.
Anakin and Aubrie have secured the base as Obi-Wan, Alpha and Master Sirrus help to evacuate the AT-AT. As the padawans head to help their masters, the troop transport explodes in a massive fireball.
