As with other issues of the Tales of the Jedi series, the first page is a "opening crawl" describing the events, briefly, from the previous issue.
Testing out new Star Saber attack ships on Ossus, Cay Qel-Droma witnesses his partner Dace Diath explode on impact with a rock formation. Fortunately, the Jedi 'stepped out' of the ship just before the crash, but recommends that they not use these new ships on the up coming mission to Cinnagar. They meet with their fellow Jedi and beast warrior Oron Kira who are all readying for the mission.
Before leaving they first meet with the Jedi Masters, who inform Cay and Nomi that Ulic needs to be allowed to make his own decisions, as he is fully aware of the consequences.
Having made his way to Cinnagar, Exar Kun discovers that the Krath have an amulet similar to his and vows to kill Aleema and Ulic before leaving the planet.
At that moment the Jedi attack force with their Stinger and Star Saber ships emerge from hyperspace undetected and begin attacking the city, bombarding the royal palace. They release three Onderonian war beasts to storm the Royal residence and rescue Ulic Qel-Droma.
Cay and Nomi tell Ulic why they have come and fight their way through guards and Aleema's Sith illusions.
Outside, as Tetan Chaos fighters join the fray, Oss Wilum observes Exar Kun below, walking through the battle. He has a strange sense he will learn much from that man.
The Jedi attempt to convince, cajole and force Ulic to return with them, but Nomi reminds them of the words of their masters. He must be allowed to choose his own path. Reluctantly they agree and depart the system.
As the Jedi leave, Exar Kun strides in blasting Aleema with Force powers and taking up lightsabers against Ulic. The amulets that the two wear began to react and a message from some long-dead Sith lords come before them.
This mysterious Sith Lord informs them that they are to carry on the titles of Dark Lords of the Sith. He brands Exar Kun as a master and Ulic as his willing apprentice. They agree, and together they will uphold the prophecies and bring down the galaxy together!
