To date, the first four issues of X-Wing Rogue Squadron have never been published as part of a Trade Paperback. One reason may be the poor dialog, inconsistencies and holes in the plot from issue to issue. Reading this in one sitting reveals several errors including, Wedge stating in issue #1 that Targeter was female, but here stating that Targeter was a him.
Tycho's Republic serial number is revealed as 68970024.
The imperial officer turns out to be Moff Boren Tascl, and he doesn't wait for the rebels to drop their weapons as he begins blasting at them from his AT-ST. Wedge, Elscol and their teams make for a set of Cilpari ruins that, according to Elscol, can't be blasted apart. Wedge convinces her that he is not her enemy and she agrees to return Rogue Squadron's weapons. Wedge orders Derek and Plourr to blast an old pile of junk, which promptly explodes and destroys one of the scout walkers threatening them. Dllr calls in their X-wings utilizing prototype slave circuits.
In their cave, Tycho is unsure that the person in front of them is actually Princess Leia. She assures them she is not, that she is in fact Dame Winter. Wes and Tycho attempt to warn her about a creature sneaking up behind her, but she expertly fires the blaster under her arm and behind her, taking out a leaping ronk. Winter then explains to the pilots what has been going on planetside, with the Moff apparently ready to turn his facilities over to the Alliance. Instead he decided to wipe out two suburbs of citizens and Alliance personnel. Winter asks Tycho to return to town masquerading as an Imp to see what they know.
Controlling their X-wings by remote control, Wedge sets the ships down. He, Plourr and Derek get airborne and begin laying down cover for the Rebels, allowing them to return to their convoy. Having driven off the remaining Imperials, the squad heads for their hidden base in the mountains west of Kiidan.
As Groznik and Dllr guard the base, Wedge tries to explain the situation to Elscol and her rebels. Wedge has a real need to find their contact Targeter, but no one seems to know who he is, except possibly Groznik, who doesn't speak Basic. A Cilpari resistance fighter, Vance Rego, believe Targeter to be dead, so Elscol asks Wedge to help them overthrow the Moff. They hop on some captured Imperial speeder bikes and arrive at an abandoned temple where they store their weapons. It is guarded by the native ronks, which they are able to disperse by tossing an oratay disc inside, which the ronks are very allergic to. Once inside they discover a large cache of weapons, but Groznik senses something else as an Imperial Space Trooper suit 'shorts out' and tries to attack them.
Meanwhile Tycho, disguised as an Imperial Captain enters the local pilots quarters where he picks a fight with Petro, another pilot. He is then quickly introduced to Aldrich Kugel and Major Grode before being suited up on an attack against the rebels weapons depot. The Major launches in his TIE interceptor followed by four TIE fighters, set to blast the Rebel base into atoms.
