This issue reprints the Star Wars Droids stories from Dark Horse Comics #17-19.
After being sold at auction by their previous Master, Wena, the droids are en route on a droid barge to Hosk Station, orbiting the planet Kalarba in the Kalarba System. Artoo points out the battle droid to his partner Threepio who finds it very disturbing, and Threepio hopes he never escapes.
Olag Greck watches the droid barge land in Hangar Three of Hosk Station, smirking that a competitor of his would have sent a droid to kill him. He vows to flush the battle droids memory and put him to good use in the Arena. At that moment, the droid escapes.
Greck's henchman, Bardo, rushes off the ship followed by a wide assortment of droids. Greck order Xob, his Gamorrean guard, onto the ship. Xob bumps into R2 and then 3PO, whom Greck mistakenly believes has caused the destruction. Threepio corrects him, telling him it was in fact IG-88!
The security system in the hangar kicks in and locks down the station. At this point the assassin droid fires its blaster at R2, gaining his attention, and knocks on the door. Artoo seems to understand him and opens the door, allowing IG-88 to escape. Greck vows to Threepio that he will hunt down the assassin droid and his astromech partner, and when he finds them, he will melt them into slag.
On Hosk Station, Threepio is assisting Olag Greck, Xob and a group of Weequay henchmen track down the rogue battle droid IG-88 and his accomplice R2-D2.
Hidden in the shadows, Artoo helps IG-88 repair his wiring and disguise himself in a cloak, before they slip off into the crowds of the station. The two droids are preparing to board a shuttle, when Threepio spots them.
Xob open fire with a carbonite constrictor net, that momentarily delays IG-88, but he releases a gas grenade and makes an escape.
Threepio and Artoo follow him, the smaller droid convincing his golden partner that staying on the station will be more troublesome than staying with the assassin droid. The steal a transport ship and make their way towards Kalarba.
Chasing the escaped assassin droid IG-88 in his special cruiser, Olag Greck demands his pilot, Forno, make haste. He threatens to melt the droid and its apparent accomplices, R2-D2 and C-3PO, into slag.
IG-88 tries to lose the pursuit ship in the canyons of Kalarba's moon, Indobok. Greck's ship is too large to follow and must slow down, allowing the other ship to pull ahead.
Rounding a bend, IG-88 blasts a rock arch, which crashes down on Greck's ship pinning them. Some rocks also strike IG-88's ship, tilting it. Artoo and Threepio are thrown into an escape pod which Artoo launches towards the planet Kalarba. Greck and his crew stand defeated, outwitted by a machine.
On Kalarba, the Pitareeze family enjoys a nice picnic by a lake when the droids escape pod crashes into the water, showering the group. Introductions are made and Baron Pitareeze notes how handy Artoo would be around his factory and Meg tells Threepio he would be useful at their travel guide business. Threepio readily agrees, glad to be on firm ground. Young Nak, trips him and he falls flat on his photoreceptors, to which Artoo lets him know, they may have been safer with IG-88.
