According to the inside cover, the events in this issue takes place 17 months after the Battle of Geonosis.
Master Billaba's injuries were chronicled in the Mace Windu story, Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover as published by Del Rey.
Outside the central command of The Rig, headquarters of the Crimson Nova chapter of the bounty hunter's guild, four Jedi make a stand against Mika, head of the guild, and dozens of her bounty hunters. She orders their deaths, but the initial wave of attackers wind up dead on the floor.
Mace Windu and Kit Fisto head for Mika and her agents while Agen Kolar and Saesee Tiin make their way into the actual command center. Mika's lieutenant Harll goes after Mace while Mika and Stroth make an escape.
Stroth tries to convince Mika again, that taking bounties on Jedi is not wise. She levels her blaster at him and tells him to back off.
Elsewhere Master's Tiin and Kolar burn their way into the command center, taking out guards along the way, in their attempt to keep reinforcements from arriving and disabling any escape pods that may be onboard.
Harll charges Master Windu, who tells him that he does not wish the bounty hunters death. Mika and her guards continue to fire on the two Jedi, but Kit Fisto, using his Force enhanced acrobatics, leaps over them and cuts down the two guards. Mace eludes the fury that is Harll, before being forced to slice him down with his lightsaber.
Mika screams in anger, and Stroth urges her to let it go. She screams at the Jedi that she will sacrifice the entire guild if need to be to wipe out their kind. There is a blast behind her and she goes down. Stroth has stunned her to protect her, and the guild. He offers the Jedi the name of Kh'aris Fenn in exchange for their leaving the guild alone. He promises to stop hunting Jedi and returns Master Saa's lightsaber as well.
Stroth places his call to Fenn to cancel the contract, who is taken back by these turn of events. Rh'ajah Fenn enters, cloaked in a dark robe, delivering a holocomm with a message from Count Dooku.
Dooku is very upset that Fenn has been stealing from him and destroying the plans he held for Ryloth. He apologizes, but insists that an example must be made.
The robed figure reveals himself as Quinlan Vos, igniting his red lightsaber. He deflects a couple of poorly aimed blasts from Fenn's holdout blaster before re-igniting his saber directly through Fenn's chest.
Mace and his Jedi posse find the holovid that Quinlan made as a warning to others, and cannot believe the depths to which he has slipped in his traitorous switch to the dark side.
Back on Coruscant in the gardens of meditation, Mace Windu returns Master Saa's lightsaber to her. She is attempting to aide Master Billaba in her her wounds suffered prior to the Battle of Haruun Kal. He updates T'ra on the events surrounding his padawan's injuries and the outcome of their mission to The Rig.
She is shocked by the choices made by Quinlan as well, but she continues to remain hopeful in the fact that those that are lost may find their way back home again.
