Kids Love The Rock 'N' Roll!
1 When will the new Ben Kenobi Figure w/commtech chip be released? -Yoda487
Since you weren't specific on which Ben Kenobi figure was coming out, I think it's safe to say you will see a new Ben Kenobi from Hasbro every 35-60 days this year, in some form or another. There's one with the Skeeto, the Soft Goods one hasn't hit everywhere yet, there's the cloaked one, a supposed "kicking" one, the one with the magnet Maul, the new Classic one... the list goes on.
2 Since this is the 20th anniversary of ESB, have you heard anything about the POTF2 line focussing on figures from that movie, much as it concentrated on ANH last year. It seems as though there remains a number of good ideas for figures there: Lando in Han's outfit, Dagobah Vader, a new Pilot Luke, Medical Robe and Bacta Luke, both Bespin Leias, as well as many others. If Hasbro continues with it's trend of as many lukes as possible, they could even make the plain orange jumpsuit he puts on for half a second when he's leaving the medical bay. -Shane
Well Shane, the only ESB figures that've even been
mentioned (and technically still not confirmed) for 2000 are Luke in
Bacta tank and Dagobah Darth Vader, the latter of which is not too
exciting at this point. There's a lot of ESB figures as of left unseen
in POTF2, and with all the figures that we are getting (Wuher, Motti,
new Ben, new Anakin, another new Ben, new Qui-Gon, another new Anakin,
new Jar Jar, another new Jar Jar, etc.) it doesn't look like there's
that much room on the assembly line for much more classic this year.
But if Hasbro is wondering what we would like... yes, a new Pilot Luke,
new Bespin Leias, a new Bepsin Lando or even (dare I say it) a new Boba
Fett would probably do pretty well with collectors, and at least two of
those should do really well with kids. Heck, you can still get the old
X-Wings, but no X-Wing pilots because you can't get the Rebel Pilots
set, X-Wing Luke, or Biggs.
3 Can you tell us a tad about what the Marmit Stormtrooper is? I've seen a picture of the box and can't tell if it's more an action figure or a model kit. I assume it's Japanese import only; were there other Star Wars figures in the line? Is Marmit the manufacturer? -Sabacc
This is the toy that is so cool, it will spoil you rotten for US 12" stuff. I haven't bought a US 12" figure since I got one.
The figure kit comes with an armature that is very well articulated. A black body glove is placed over it, and the armor is placed (and in some places glued) on the glove. There are interchangable hands, there's a lot of articulation, and yes, it actually looks like a stormtrooper from the film so much, you could probably doctor one in an image of a trading card from one of the first films and if lighted properly, nobody would know the difference.
The toy came out in Japan from Marmit last year, and typically goes for just under $100. While jonesin' for Japanese Beast Wars (still need a friggin' Ravage gosh darn it) I found the Marmit Troopers at New Generation Toys (which I have never bought anything from, and I have never contacted them, etc., disclaimer, etc.) for $75 per.
If you have $75 to spare-- and by looking at the rather trim offerings that it appears 2000 could have, you will have $75 to spare-- it's a nice piece, but it's so incredibly cool that your other toys will cower in shame.

As far as I know, nobody has bothered to do the whole high-quality licensed Lightsaber thing. If you make the convention circuit, odds are you can find fan made replicas just as good as the ones that would've come out of Icons, for a fraction of the price.
5 It looks to me that the Obi-wan w/cloak is different than the others. His shoulders and upper body do not seem to be as triangluar as "jedi duel". Hopefully he won't be as anorexic either. -Jeffro
While it does look like the hands are just a wee
bit different, I have to say, it doesn't matter. When it came to Luke
Tatooine remakes, it was easy to see the differences-- first, new deco
and a slight alteration for the deluxe one. The Blast Shield one was
an all new sculpt... the Gunner Station Luke was taller and had a new
belt, as well as a different pose... the Purchase of the Droids Luke had
a different belt and a new pose... Floppy Hat Luke had new paint, new
articulation, and a lot of new weapons... T-16 Luke had new articulation
and the T-16... they were pretty different, at least it was obvious.
Having to take a magnifying glass to find a difference is a bit much.
Having a Ben Kenobi with the hood up is one thing, but this seems a
little soon... we had to wait like 22 years before a classic one got
released.
6
Hasbro hasn't given an official answer (and I don't think anybody has asked yet), but I'd say it's safe to assume that it's a "deluxe" model that makes it easier for chips to converse and it provides clearer speech... or that it's required for the new chips appearing on 2000 product.
7
Could be either way-- weird saber choices have happened before (Classic Flesh 'n' Blood Anakin comes with Obi-Wan's saber), but odds are that it is meant to be like it is at the end of the film.
8
I've seen it pretty regularly at the Toys "R" Us and Wal-Mart stores I frequent. If all else fails, try shopping at eToys, KB Kids, and the like-- there's a lot of coupons floating around out there, maybe you can get it cheaper than in the stores.
9
Well, Wuher is one that a lot of us have been wanting for a long time because he's part of a set-- there's a bar, yet no one to tend said bar. And since (according to what I've read/heard from people at the club) he will be an exclusive and not shared, there's very little chance of pegwarmer status.
As far as the three you mention, well, there seem to be next to no
classic figures this year as is. Sure, it's possible, anything is
possible. I wouldn't consider them likely, though, even as exclusives
because when you get down to it, Ozzel isn't all that distinctive from
guys like Motti and Tarkin that are all available now (or will be soon).
Madine... well, I think he's a snooze. Unless we're down to like one
or two figures from the classic line that haven't been POTF2-ed, I would
say buy the vintage one. It's like three bucks without the staff. Rieekan would be neat, but Hasbro seems to be shying away from ESB figures as of late... dunno why, but if you look at the past year, there were probably only 2 or 3 ESB figures (Hoth Chewie & Flashback Yoda come to mind). Sure, I would buy any new classic figure before another Episode One rehash, but speaking from a typical toy store POV, odds are sales wouldn't be so good-- well, as of two years ago.
It should be interesting to see how the line works this year... with
orders going down, odds are these figures could be very popular, but the
problem with Star Wars is that a starved market is a healthy market.
Would you believe there was a time where the Bend-Ems were insanely
popular?
10
Because the CommTech chips worked-- it added
visual value to something that didn't really cost Hasbro any money.
It's quite true that the figures would have been increased in price no
matter what (it happened with the Beast Machines Basic figures this
year, for another example, by $2 per), but the thing is people see those
things as costing $1. If they dropped 'em, we probably would be paying
the exact same amount. I'm sure people would complain if we got the
Battle Droids and Pit Droids as well... not me, I'd love free army
builders instead of those chips. Heck, I'd be gaga over the 2000 line
if I got a Pit Droid with every purchase.

While it is possible that the Skeeto is based on
an unused LucasFilm creature design, the picture we've seen is eerily
similar to a toy in another one of my favorite toy lines, ALIENS. The
head of the Skeeto and the Snake Alien look enough alike to call Hasbro
on one of the now famous Robin Hood-esque reusings of a previous toy.
Or it could just be a rough prototype... we'll have more info in a
couple of weeks from Toy Fair, if all goes well.
2 What are the chances of Hasbro doing some sort of rerelease of POTF2 figures such as Vader w/rem helmet,Cap.Piett,etc.Maybe with Commtech chips? -Rob
Well, if you read the back Q&A-- you know, that HUGE list of questions and answers at the bottom of this page which you read before writing in-- you'd know the answer is still slim to none.
3 I recently saw on another site a petition for hasbro to make Plo Koon (Jedi Council Member). Is this really necessary? How can Hasbro NOT make more Jedi? -Darren847
People are bored, and too many seem to have
forgotten that Episode One has not even been out for a year yet. Heck,
Kenner made ANH figures in 1984... to quote the great Criswell, "There
is still time." People just want more stuff now, today, immediately...
this makes sense for a brand new toy line, but with one with hundreds of
toys like POTF2/E1, a petition isn't really necessary. Odds are Plo
Koon will be warming pegs and being avoided by kids everywhere within
the next two years.

5 What happened to devo? -Greg
They're still making new music, but not that much. At least one new track'll be on my old band's new boxed set from Rhino... but I'm sure they'll leave me off of it, like they always do since they became famous...
6
Well M, you should probably ask for your money back, or at least make sure there's someone you can ask to get your money back. I'd say you might be out a few hundred bucks at this point, as zero information has popped out of the Icons camp regarding SW product in some time.
7
While I never saw a definite price, I have heard prices upwards of $100 (namely $125) tossed around. Which might be OK if it's really stinking big.
8
(grumble) Like I've mentioned before, as of the SW Celebration in Denver last May, they confirmed no new Classic Cinemascenes were to be made. As for Episode One, I don't know what's going on as of yet. Most, if not all, of these questions will be answered once and for all as of Toy Fair.
9
While some reports hinted that Hasbro was considering it some time ago, it looks unlikely given the state of the hobby.
10
The rarely scene cut footage of Yoda playing whack-a-mole.
