Guess who's wearing his undies backwards?
1 I know that Hasbro is starting to put out the classic trilogy 4" figures with a commtech chip. I was wondering if you knew how extensive this new line is going to be. While I am very much looking forward to the new figs, I shudder at a slew of $7 toys whose only discernible differences are articulated limbs. Please tell me Hasbro isn't going to make me double up on a bunch of characters I already own before they put out some better (read: more desirable) figures!! -Tex
Ummm... have you *seen* any of the new figures yet? Luke aside, the other four feature incredible new sculpts. I cannot tell you how much the new Han figure rocks in words. The sculpts are just friggin' amazing, and while they are a bit pricey at $7-$9, I can assure you that Han and the Jawa/Gonk set are well worth it.
As far as extent? Well as you know my buddy Doc and I traveled to the
year 2015 over the weekend to get an issue of ASWN#20.5 to find your
answer. Unfortunately, it was not compatible with the mac I'm using,
so all I can say is that from what I remember, don't expect more than a
dozen or two classic figures a year. All the new sculpt pictures I've
seen are great, and all the new figures are also great... and there
aren't that many. (A shame, I'd buy a new Boba Fett or Lando over
Anakin #8 anyday.)
2 I really dig those goofy little Japanese deformed windups of the Episode One characters. Although they appear all the world like bootleg items to me, I've never seen them referred to as such. On ebay or at online stores, They're always called "Asian market exclusives" or terms to that effect. Are those little toys actually licensed? And if so, by who? -MstrFrothy These little buggers are, as far as I can tell, bootlegs.
3 Hi. Do you know what happend to the Power F/X line of Star Wars toys? It seems like Hasbro carried almost everything over to the Episode I line except for these, Complete Galaxy and a very few others. Personally I thought these toys were great. And Habro would have a lot to work with from Episode I too. I could just imagine a Power F/X Darth Maul in battle with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. I usually tend not to ask "whatever happend to..." or "wouldn't it be cool if..." but I was really stumped on this one. -Jeff There never really was an official Power FX line as such, really... 5 figures and the X-Wing, really. Considering that most of the previous FX toys sold... well, you can still find a few of them, I wouldn't get hopeful.
4 Yes and no-- some stores have gotten them in their assortments, some haven't. I haven't seen one yet, myself.
5 What are your thoughts on the Fan Club Four (Hoth Leia, D.S. Droid, AT-AT Drive, Pote Snitkin)? Do you think they will ever be worth more the retail figures? -ajs Well, at $19 for two, they already are.
6 Ummm... well, my Greedo has a blast mark.
7 While there have been some writings in the Expanded Universe on this, it's never been spelled out on screen as such. It seems to be that the Padawan is the bottom of the barrel, while the Knight is able to go do Jedi-things without a Master, and a Master is called such due to his teaching other Jedi. It seems.
8 Hasbro has a mini-rig of sorts due out later of an ATT that's much, much smaller. It includes a Pilot droid (or at least it's pictured with one.)
9 A combination of waning fan interest, poor overall sales, poorly made assortments from Hasbro, and the popularity index. When a store had 200+ green card figures from 1997, they don't want more similar product, especially when 50% of the cases have more of what they already have. A lot of fans quit or started picking and choosing when it came to all the resculpts. And, of course, Hasbro went insane and packed Rancor Keepers beyond the initial assortment.
10 Because a widely held belief is that the figure will change. What people don't take into account is very few people opened their Yoda because of this, therefore if a change were to happen, odds are there would actually be more of the "error" figures out there anyhoo. Right now, it's not really an error/variant because there is no alternate/corrected version. If there was, well, that'd make sense to get all excited about it. But the market is weird-- once it decides some item is rare, even if it isn't, the hooplah remains. Everything I've ever read states that the infamous "C-PPO" or "Excited C-3PO" card from the old Topps set way back when exists in higher numbers than the corrected version. But no one cares about the corrected version... go figger.

Sure is, the first of the three is due out in a coupla months. It doesn't look like it'll have as much of the lost footage as many were hoping, but yeah, it's on the way.
2 Who is Lott Dodd? I have seen this figure listed on a Kenner product list as a Collection 3 secondary figure with no release date? I couldn't find him/her/it in my visual dictionary? -Theo He's the Nemoidian Senator in the big senate room that talks. As far as I know, Hasbro has yet to confirm his being made in plastic... heck, he's pegwarmer fodder for sure.
3 How does Hasbro plan to get around the fact that some of the coolest episode one and classic trilogy characters never had any lines? they seem to have magically give Adi Gallia lines, but i'm assuming that's just stuff that didn' t make the final film. -Headache79 Many of the Episode One CommTech recordings were, obviously, not from the final film, possibly not from the film at all. As to where they did come from, well, this is still unknown, but a Hasbro rep (at the Denver show) mentioned something along the lines of "well, they could always say what they *might* have said."
4 I'm glad you asked! The new Chewie is from the first Star Wars film (big surprise, right?) and is the Dejarik (aka Chess) playing version. His hands go behind his head and he comes with a chair in which to sit. An official Hasbro pic has been floating around the internet, yet I can't seem to find the image on Hasbro's new site for some reason. Odd.
5 In my opinion, one of the coolest characters from E1 was Palpatines guards. If you don't know who I'm talking about, they were dressed in blue and wore a helmet that resembled a roman soldier. Will we be seeing any of these guys in plastic soon? -jay More than likely some day... but nothing's official yet.
6 Okay, before you read the following, keep in mind that it is a cheap plug for someone. P&P Products (http://www.pandp-products.com) makes some pretty great cases with pegs for new and vintage figures, and those are probably worth a look. I think The Earth sold cases in its store at one point, and might still have them available, so that might be worth a try. Other than that... well, shelves are it.
7 There are minor differences, but to be honest, I can find the same differences between carded Ewoks sets or R2-D2s. For all practical purposes it's the same toy, but R2-D2 seems slightly lower in terms of quality.
8 I bought like six for $0.99 each last fall, so I would have to say no, not really.
9 Honestly, I'm in the same boat-- I just can't remember seeing it in the movie. Must be my old age. If anybody out there has pics of it in the flick, please email us. Looking at some of the other Hasbro product, I assume it's another mini-rig type toy, but hey, there's always something new in the corner of the movie...
10 Yup, a full size one is actually on the way!
FIN Lots of you keep asking about a new Boba Fett figure, and a fair amount about a new Millennium Falcon. Neither toy is in production as far as I know, but hey, it'd be nice.

The set never actually existed as far as I know. Basically, it ended up being the most popularly reprinted rumor, spanning website after website, magazine after magazine. It's possible such an item could happen, but obviously it wasn't ready for 1999.
2 I just got the jawa and gonk commtech figure and was wondering if there is anyway to make the gonk droid stand straight up? This could be the figure of the year if they hadn't screwed up the legs on the gonk droid. -Paul Y'know the little plastic rubber-band thing that holds figures guns in place? Those work pretty well.
3 How come Canadian, Tri-Logo or any other foriegn SW carded figures are worth LESS than their American counterparts? Magazines and stores always list U.S. figs more than even though by the law of supply and demand/invisble hand theory Foriegn Figs are harder to come by and thus more 'collectible'. -Adrien Traditionally, American figures have more toys per line and more attractive packaging. You can't get everybody on UK cards, for example, but you can on US cards. Foreign figures are cool because they're different, but US ones are just always more popular. Well, except for vintage trilogo stuff, those are pretty friggin' cool.
4 It's not especially common, but it is a licensed toy. Basically, it's the Magic 8-Ball meets Yoda... it's neat, it's Yoda, it's cool. It was available in the US (and apparently Hong Kong) but I'm not too sure about other markets.
5 I recently came across some of the new Action Fleet Vehicles at a local Wal-Mart and found a Trade Federation Droid Fighter inside an Anakin's Podracer box. Is this a rare error or just a mistake in packaging? -Bruce Just another Galoob error... this has been a pretty frequent type of smeg-up since the Action Fleet line began.
6 Rare? No. Actually, some online toy stores still have them (take a look around, odds are you'll find at least one.) It's a tough piece to find right now because they haven't gotten around much, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it rare yet.
7 No plans as of yet. Man, I'm amazed so many people missed out on such a junky package... those suckers sold incredibly poorly in my area (before drying up.)
8 Because you had to move to exciting Delaware.
9 Sure. Technically. Buzz has it an Obi-Wan is in production that is similar to the 12" figure released earlier this year, but no pictures have surfaced as far as I can tell.
10 Methinks that was a typo-- he was listed directly next to the 4" Rune Haako and no 4" Nute Gunray appears on the site.
