Greetings, Rebelscum fans! This week on the site we’re headed to the planet Ryloth. Twi’lek characters have been fan-favorites since 1983, but we finally got to see their homeworld in The Clone Wars. Ryloth continued to play a major role in both Rebels and The Bad Batch. Stay tuned throughout the week for more articles, insights, videos, and merchandising updates about Ryloth, Twi’leks, and much more!

You’d be far-pressed to find a Star Wars fan convention where you can’t spot at least one person dressed in Twi’lek cosplay. We’d like to pay respect to all the loyal fans who are willing to don full body makeup; that takes dedication! Read more about the species and their homeworld in this week’s Force Facts!

  • Numa, the young girl that Waxer and Boil save in “Innocents of Ryloth,” was voiced by Padme Amidala actress Catherine Taber. Taber admitted it is one of the few episodes that made her tear up when she first read the script.

  • Ryloth suffers under the rule of Wat Tambor and the Techno Union in “Liberty on Ryloth.” The Techno Union was first dominated by the Sith during the Expanded Universe novel Darth Plagueis.

  • “Liberty on Ryloth” featured an appearance by actor T.C. Carson as Mace Windu. Despite appearing in The Clone Wars feature film, Samuel L. Jackson opted not to voice him on the series.

  • After his memorable appearance in The Clone Wars, Cham Syndulla appeared in the novel Lords of the Sith. Lords of the Sith was notably one of the first Star Wars novels to feature a canon LGBTQIA character.

  • Despite their allegiance to the Republic, the Ryloth politicians chose not to openly support Leia Organa during the battle against the First Order in the Canon novel Bloodline.

  • According to Henry Gilroy, Cham Syndulla’s name was derived from the words “sin” and “charm,” because he could be perceived as either a hero or villain.

  • Cham Syndulla actor Robin Atkin Downes also voiced Rush Clovis, Castas, and several other The Clone Wars characters.

  • The Blurrgs that appear in “Liberty on Ryloth” may be familiar to long time Star Wars fans. They first appeared in the 1985 made-for-television movie Ewoks: The Battle For Endor and more recently in The Mandalorian.

  • The Star Wars: Legacy Twi’lek villain Darth Talon was inspired by some of the original concept art for Darth Maul.

  • The comic book two-pack featuring Darth Talon and Cade Skywalker is one of the most sought after merchandising items from the line.

  • In Legends, Ryloth is divided into a permanent light side called the “Bright Lands” and a dark side called “the Nightlands.” The only habitable area is a thin ring between the two halves.

  • In Legends, Ryloth attracted some tourists with its natural wonders, including the “Floating Rock Gardens of Ryloth.”

  • In Legends, Quinlan Vos travels to Ryloth to stop illegal animal smuggling. It’s here where he discovers Aayla, and takes her to be trained as a Jedi.
