Hey there, Rebelscum fans! This week on the site we’re exploring Bespin, Cloud City, carbonite, and “I am your father” among other things. Make sure to read our “Expand Your Mind” article first in order to read about the planet’s importance within the saga, but stay tuned throughout the week for more articles, insights, videos, and information on the best merchandising content that you should be looking for.

Contrary to popular belief, Billy Dee Williams didn’t actually audition to play Han Solo in A New Hope. That’s good, because Han and Lando are vastly different characters. If Han is a scoundrel who is not afraid to get his hands dirty, Lando is a charismatic smooth talker who managed to talk his way out of trouble. Lando’s schemes are more high minded that Han’s odd jobs, which explains how he’s managed to handle the booming economy of Bespin.

Donald Glover portrayed a younger version of the character in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, but the Expanded Universe and Legends continuity feature many additional adventures featuring the smirking card shark. Here are some of Lando’s greatest stories:

  • Lando Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharu (1983) - In this early Legends book, Lando travels to the Rafa System in search of buried treasure. The adventure takes place shortly after Lando first possesses ownership of the Millenium Falcon, which ironically he won through a sabacc game.

  • Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon (1983) - Shortly after his Rafa adventure, Lando and his droid companion win big when traveling to the Oseon system. Unfortunately, Lando’s sabacc victory was against a galactic law enforcement officer who has now made him enemy number one.

  • Lando Calrissian and the Starcave of ThonBoka (1983) - It would still be years before Lando was introduced to the concept of the force, but he got a taste of some sorcery when he goes up against the Sorcerer of Tund, Rokur Gepta, in the ThonBoka nebula.

  • Lando (2015) - One of Lando’s adventures in the new canon timeline, the Lando miniseries follows him during a heist to steal a vessel that has an unexpected Imperial inhabitant.

  • Rebel Dawn (1998) - In this third installment in The Han Solo Trilogy, the early backstory of Han’s victory of the Millenium Falcon is revealed. It would be recreated fairly accurately two decades later in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

  • Scoundrels (2013) - Timothy Zahn’s novel is essentially Ocean’s Eleven in the Star Wars universe. Lando teams up with Han and Chewie, hired by the Hutts, for a daring heist. It somehow manages to get the attention of the Empire, Black Sun, and other criminal parties.

  • Shadows of the Empire (1996) - How did Lando turn from an unexpected ally into a General during the Battle of Endor? The Shadows of the Empire project set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi explores how Lando develops as a hero in between the two films during the search for his buddy Han.
