Hey there, Rebelscum fans! This week on the site we’ve started our engines to talk about the Boonta Eve Classic Podrace from The Phantom Menace. Make sure to check out our “Expand Your Mind” article first in order to learn about the history of the sequence and its importance within the saga, but stay tuned throughout the week for more articles, insights, and video content.

Few sequences in the entire Star Wars saga (save for maybe the trench run from A New Hope) have inspired as much gaming content as the podrace from The Phantom Menace. The concept of a competitive sport within the Star Wars universe certainly gave gamers a different experience than they were used to, and ‘90s kids in particular have fond memories of some of the best Episode I tie-in content.

Check out some of the best Podracing gaming content.

  • Star Wars Episode I: Racer - The classic Nintendo 64 game featured both single player, multiplayer, and countless new planets featuring the racers from The Phantom Menace. The 2002 sequel Racer Revenge was released for PlayStation, and recently the classic version was restored for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

  • The Phantom Menace (Official Game) - While not entirely focused on the podrace, the Big Ape version of The Phantom Menace featured prominent racing sequences within the Mos Espa levels.

  • Racer Arcade - Any Star Wars fan visiting a Dave and Busters (or younger fans headed to Chuck E. Cheese) were sure to check out the classic SEGA arcade game, which managed to actually give the 1997 Trilogy Arcade a run for its money.

  • LEGO Star Wars - The first of what would become one of the most acclaimed gaming franchises of all-time, the original 2005 LEGO Star Wars game featured brick versions of the events of the prequel trilogy. Level 4 brought fans to the podrace, which is notoriously one of the most difficult vehicular challenges in the LEGO Star Wars franchise.

  • LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - The packeted versions of the entire saga’s adventures didn’t add much to the original podracing mode, but the expanded Free Play mode allowed for even more characters to be included. How would characters like Greedo, Count Dooku, and Kylo Ren fare behind the command of a podracer?

What do you think, Rebelscum fans? Do you have a lot of nostalgia for Episode I: Racer and other pod racing games? What sort of gaming content do you want to see in the future? Let us know in the forums, and as always, may the Force be with you!
