Welcome to a new weekly feature:
Weirdo of the Week! Here we'll highlight some of the weirder denizens and lesser-known oddballs of the Hasbro Star Wars universe.
Up first, Sarco Plank.
One of the best alien designs from
The Force Awakens began by concept artists imagining what the equivalent of the Tusken Raider would look like on the new desert planet of Jakku...with a bit of space-lobster thrown in. Eventually, a final design was approved for "Outpost Alien C034" and Sarco Plank was born. Much like the infamous Constable Zuvio, Sarco Plank is almost completely removed from the final film. After the home video release, eagle-eyed fans were finally able to spot his brief 2-3 frame appearance at the 30:07 mark. Despite this lack of screen time, Sarco managed to appear in promotional photography, coloring books, and even as a villain in the junior novel
Weapon of a Jedi by Jason Fry.
It's easy to see why merchandisers latched on to this casualty of the cutting room floor. He's a very striking figure, with deep reddish orange robes and a bright green "face." He has a mechanical chest-box and breathing tubes--both classic Star Wars ingredients, and a very interesting blaster. In short, he looks the part.
Hasbro's version of this colorful scavenger and trader was released in the second wave of The Force Awakens 3 3/4" assortment. In addition to his regular blaster, he is packed with a large Combiner Accessory blaster. View the Photo Archive entry
