Up until now, each of the
Star Wars themed run weekends at The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA and The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL have been either Light Side or Dark Side themed. Due to
some unfortunate circumstances, all races at Disneyland have been postponed indefinitely, but we still continue to run at The Walt Disney World Resort multiple times throughout the year and for the
Star Wars race weekend specifically, through Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Epcot.
In 2019, fans have the ability to choose which one they'll run for, but the theming is all about rivalries! In a recent announcement on the
Disney Parks Blog, we were given a list of exactly what these rivalries will entail:
•
Star Wars Rival Run 5K | Finn and Captain Phasma
•
Star Wars Rival Run 10K | Han Solo and Boba Fett
•
Star Wars Rival Run Half Marathon | Rey and Kylo Ren
•
Star Wars Rival Run Challenge | Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader
• runDisney Kids Races | BB-8 and BB-9E
If the merchandise is going to be themed after these epic battles that span the
Star Wars Saga, I think this may just be the best offering we've seen yet and this goes for the medals, apparel, pins, toys, other collectibles & more!
If you haven't signed up yet, fear not...all of the races are currently still available depending on your level of experience and ability. For those just starting out, the
Star Wars Rival Run 5K is the perfect fit at 3.1 miles. Additionally, there's the
Star Wars Rival Run 10K (6.2 miles) and the
Star Wars Rival Run Half Marathon (13.1 miles). Runners can also sign up for the
Star Wars Rival Run Challenge which consists of running both the 10K and Half Marathon for a total of 19.3 miles over two days. The Kessel Run Challenge is also another awesome option which requires you to do the Rival Run Challenge plus run the
Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon on your own time and that will get you an R2-D2 themed medal along with the beautiful and coveted Millennium Falcon medal. The race weekend is still six months away, so there's enough time to start training, accomplish something amazing and come away with some ultra cool hardware.
When you sign up, you're given the choice of running for either the Light Side or the Dark Side and your race bib theme will depend on what you select provided you do so by January 15, 2019. After that, it will be up to the Force to choose which side you represent that weekend.
