Throughout June, we've been showcasing the multimedia crossover adventure from 1996,
Shadows of the Empire. One of the most popular aspects of this crossover was the
comic book series published by
Dark Horse Comics. But the story was not just contained to the 6-issue series. Much like the overall project itself, the comic book also had spin-offs into other collectible items. Now, thanks to several of our readers, we have a few more additions to the cover gallery.
While the contents of the mini-comic that was included with
MicroMachines Collection I was identical to the other collections, each cover was different. Rebelscum forum member "r2dee2" sends in the missing scan.
Several of the AMT\ERTL model kits released at the time also include special comic books inside the kits. The story and art inside was all-new (rather than the reprints that are incuded with the Kenner 2-packs), and now thanks to Rebelscum reader Todd Mount, we have a photo of the cover.
On the international front, Juan Carlos Vazquez provides cover scans of the first 5 issues of the limited series. Titled
Star Wars: Sombras del Imperio, these comics were published in Mexico. The cover artwork by Hugh Fleming is the same as the American versions.
Todd Mount also sends in the covers from
Star Wars Galaxy #s 9-12 that contained the original serialized comic story that was later reprinted in the
Star Wars: Shadow Stalker one-shot. This story stars new character Jix in an all-new story set just prior to the
Shadows of the Empire.
Also sent in by Todd are the covers from
Star Wars Galaxy #13 and
Star Wars Galaxy Collector #s 1-3, which contained the original serialized comic story that was later reprinted in the
Star Wars: The Jabba Tape one-shot. This story takes place after
Shadows of the Empire and features Big Gizz and Spiker in a new adventure.
Finally,
Star Wars Galaxy #7 contains a new story called "Assignment:Decoy" featuring Princess Leia and Prince Xizor. Cover once again photo courtesy Todd Mount.
A huge thanks to Marilyn, Todd, and Juan for the images of these comic book covers.
Are there additional
Shadows of the Empire comic stories and covers not included in our gallery? Not that I'm aware of. However, I'm sure if there are, I can count on our readers to help make our Photo Archives as complete as possible.
