What's Inside?

For those of you looking to pass the time while still satisfying your Star Wars craving, Thunder Bay Press has assembled a nice activity with a bit of a challenge. The Star Wars Crochet Finger Puppets kit includes everything you need to get started on making your own galaxy of characters. The kit includes a tapestry needle, stuffing, steel crochet hook, plastic eyes, and nine colors of yarn. There are enough materials to make Luke Skywalker (farm boy) and Darth Vader, but there are instructions provided to make several more.

What Can I Make?

Although the base kit only contains the materials for a roughly four inch Luke and Vader, there are instructions to make other original trilogy big wigs such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Yoda, Stormtrooper, Jabba the Hutt, Emperor Palpatine, and of course Boba Fett! The design are also pretty intricate including removable hoods for Obi-Wan and the Emperor, which adds some real depth to the puppets themselves.

How Difficult Is It To Do This?

We are not going to lie, this is difficult if you do not have a background in crocheting. While the book provides great instructions on the basics and a through step by step instruction on how to make the puppets, we still strongly advise you watch some online videos about the different techniques. Like with most new things, you will need practice and once you get started, it should start flowing like second nature. However, getting started was really tricky. Part of this issue may be the thinner strands of yarn you are working with, which is harder to keep taut in the starting stages. This is definitely more challenging than doing a puzzle but should be far more rewarding. Just like with becoming a Jedi, we recommend patience.
