Question Topics:
Target Slave 1 and Rabé/Dormé Variation

Q&A Archive

While time for a full update has been tight, there have been a number of questions lately about Target’s new exclusive Slave 1. Many who have found the set are now reporting that Boba Fett’s jet pack missile is missing…

When recently purchasing an OTC Slave 1, I noticed from all the 6 sitting on the shelf in the shop that the missile was missing from Boba Fett's backpack. I thought perhaps this may be inside the box, but then thought why would they do that if the figure is holding the other accessory in its hands (i.e. laser rifle) - anyway, suffice it to say I bought it & got it home, opened it (with great difficulty, trying not to damage the packaging, I might add) & nothing!

My question is, is this a factory error, or a conscious decision by Hasbro not to include this for safety reasons? If this is an error, is there a way to get a replacement? When these things are imported into the UK, they ain't cheap at £35.99 ($64.00)! - Paul Harwood

I just purchased the Target exclusive Slave I and could not find Boba Fett's backpack missile anywhere in the package. Looking at the image on the back of the package I can clearly see the tip protruding from the backpack. Is anybody else missing theirs or did I just get a lemon? If so, who can I complain to to get the missing missile? –Dave Cordes

To be perfectly honest I’m not sure what to make of this situation; the packaging appears to host the standard warning label, and apparently the missile was not an issue when the figure itself was released a couple years ago. However, there’s a good chance Target had some say in this matter, as the item is their exclusive, and elected to apply a stricter child safety standard on the toy for their own protection. The odd thing that I noticed, very clearly, all the boxes I found (fresh from a sealed case) were obviously double taped and showed signs of having been opened and resealed. This leads me to think some issue forced Hasbro back into these sets to take the missiles out, not that this is the result of a production error. Without the benefit of more information from the manufacturer, it’s just impossible to know for sure. To that end, we’ve sent an email to Hasbro asking about the situation and expect something about the matter to be posted on their site soon. We’ll be sure to watch for it, and as soon as an announcement is made we’ll let everyone know.

Also, following up on Martin Hendrick’s email that generated last weekend’s Handmaiden Variant Coming? report, we’ve asked Hasbro about the possible Rabé/Dormé variation. Again, we look forward to seeing Hasbro address this in an upcoming Republic News update so stay tuned!
