While last year saw the release of a green deco
A-Wing, judging by what we've seen, 2004 is set to see the release of a red deco Y-wing. The paint scheme we've seen looks to be a near perfect copy of the
Yellow Leader variant and
Series Alpha version Galoob offered nearly six years ago, right down to the steel-blue cockpit. To date, no official details about the new Y-Wing have been reported, and we have no reason to doubt the validity of the image we were shown. Stay tuned, we hope to have an image to share with our readers soon!
Commentary: While it's nice to see Hasbro mixing things up a bit, it does stand out that this version of the tenacious Rebel fighter never appeared on screen in any of the Star Wars films. After many collectors were left empty handed following the release of the Target
POTF Y-Wing Fighter, one has to wonder (if indeed this red version turns out to be this year's model) if this was right way to go. Clearly, there are many collectors out there that would appreciate a second chance at the original (Gold Squadron deco) Y-Wing, as well as those that simply want the version that was seen in the movies. If in fact the red Y-Wing is what's in store, it will be interesting to watch how this alternate version is received.
