Welcome, Rebelscum readers! In our “Character Profile” segment, we’re looking at one of the most fearsome Sith Lords in the history of the
Star Wars universe, Darth Krayt. Krayt is the main antagonist in the
Star Wars: Legacy comic series, where he leads the new Sith Order (which he organizes as the “One Sith”) to destroy the Jedi Temple. However, his connection to the larger
Star Wars canon goes even deeper.
Before he took on his Sith moniker, Krayt was born as A'Sharad Hett, a Tusken Raider and son of the famed Jedi Sharad Hett. The older Hett was introduced in the early
Star Wars: Republic Dark Horse comic book series, where he abandoned the Jedi Order and chose to adopt the Tusken Raider culture on Tatooine to raise his son.
The elder Hett is called back into action, when Ki-Adi-Mundi travels to inform him that Qui-Gon-Jinn has been killed. Sharad Hett, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and a young A’Sharad are stalked by the force sensitive bounty hunter Aurra Sing, who kills Sharad in a fierce standoff. Ki-Adi-Mundi decides to adopt A’Sharad as his new apprentice and bring him to the Jedi Temple in order to formally bring him into the Jedi Order.
A’Sharad became a prominent Jedi and close friend to Anakin Skywalker throughout the Clone Wars, becoming one of the few Jedi to learn about Anakin’s slaughter of the Tusken village that captured his mother. A’Sharad managed to survive Order 66, but his guilt over the failure of the Jedi to protect the Republic led him down a darker path to become a bounty hunter. After discovering the Sith home world Korriban (renamed Moraband in
The Clone Wars), A’Sharad embraced the dark side and became Darth Krayt, named after the creature from his homeworld (we finally saw a living Krayt dragon in action in the season two premiere of
The Mandalorian).
Using Yuuzhan Vong technology and his Sith teachings to advance his life, Krayt grew the new Sith Order and established himself as the new leader of the Imperial Remnant. Krayt ruled the galaxy with an iron fist and became obsessed with tracking down Jedi survivors, particularly Cade Skywalker, the only known survivor of the Skywalker bloodline.
Now is a better time than ever to invest in Krayt merchandise for collectors. Legacy has a legion of fans, and it's one of the most expansive Legends storylines scrubbed from the new canon. One of the most popular issues was
Star Wars: Legacy 16: Claws of the Dragon, Part 3, which flashes back to a post-Clone Wars lightsaber duel between Krayt and Obi-Wan-Kenobi. Rumors persist that this moment could be partially adapted as part of the new Disney+
Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
There’s only one available figure of Krayt- an action figure two-pack that features him alongside Imperial Knight Sigel Dare. It’s one of the rarest and most in-demand of the comic pack series. You can also search for another comic pack that features Krayt’s father Sharad Hett alongside Ki-Adi-Mundi.
So what do you guys think? Is Darth Krayt your favorite Legends Sith Lord? Would you like to see his duel with Obi-Wan recreated in the new series? Do you like how Legacy concluded, or do you want to see more from Krayt? Let us know in the
