Hey there, Rebelscum fans! Earlier we looked at where Star Wars: The Clone Wars began with the 2008 theatrical feature film, and this week we’re taking a look at its conclusion. We’re looking at the gripping final “Siege of Mandalore” arc that concluded the series, so stick around later in the week for more articles and video content.


Despite a mixed response to the film, The Clone Wars developed a strong following among Star Wars fans through its initial five season run, introducing beloved new characters and exploring the prequel era in detail. Center to discussions about the show was the question everyone had on their minds: what happened to Ahsoka Tano? The Togrutan padawan obviously wasn’t in Revenge of the Sith, so fans were left to speculate on her fate.


The reappearance of Darth Maul within the show’s third season presented a compelling mystery for the series to follow. The fan favorite Sith apprentice was revealed to be alive in the show’s third season, and built a united criminal empire alongside his brother Savage Oppress. The fifth season saw Maul once again failing to get vengeance on Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Oppress was brutally killed by Darth Sidious.


Before fans got a conclusion to these compelling narratives, the series was surprisingly taken off air in 2013. A sixth season released directly to Netflix in 2014 titled “The Lost Missions” filled in a few story beats, but Maul and Ahsoka were absent from the shortened run of episodes. They would later both show up in the next animated series, Star Wars: Rebels, but fans wanted to see The Clone Wars continue to its proper conclusion.


Thankfully, Disney finally addressed these concerns and last year released the seventh season of The Clone Wars to Disney+. Consisting of three story arcs, season seven included four episodes introducing the advanced clone squad known as “The Bad Batch” and another four showing Ahsoka’s adventures with the Martez smuggler sisters.


However, the most exciting prospect of seeing the show’s intended conclusion was the last four episodes that form the “Siege of Mandalore” story arc. Ahsoka is called in by Anakin to lead Rex and the 501st in an all-out assault on Mandalore in events that directly align with the events of Revenge of the Sith. It's during the aftermath of invasion that Rex and the other clones finally respond to Order 66.


“Old Friends Not Forgotten,” “The Phantom Apprentice,” “Shattered,” and “Victory and Death" form the perfect conclusion to the show that had grown so beloved. Ahsoka combats Maul in one of the greatest lightsaber duels in Star Wars history, and his escape segways perfectly into his appearance on Rebels. However, it's the emotional friendship and reminiscences of Ahsoka and Rex that had so many fans wiping the tears away.
