May actually had about four new
Star Wars books available, with two being released within the last week. The first. while not wholly a
Star Wars book, was
Cinema by the Bay, written by Sheerly Avni. This hardcover, coffee-table book is the first in the new George Lucas Books imprint and features the detailed history of the San Francisco film community, including Coppola, Kaufman, Korty as well as Lucas. It's beautifully illustrated with hundreds of pictures and is a must have for any cinema buff (it reminds me of why I went to film school in the first place). There is also a
limited edition autographed version of the same book available thru StarWarsShop.com, but it appears to be unavailable at the moment (perhaps it sold out).
The newest book, released on Tuesday is
Star Wars: Legacy of the Force 1: Betrayal by Aaron Allston. This hardcover begins a nine-book series entitled
Legacy of the Jedi and follows the events of the GFFA post
New Jedi Order and
Dark Nest Trilogy, focusing on Ben Skywalker, now a 13 year old. Expect new villains and some old returning favorites. For those who desire more information, or may have
already read the book, you can read an interview with Aaron Allston at the Official Site, and a pseudo-review by Go-Go's guitarist Jane Wiedlin.
Other recent releases include the Legacy of the Jedi/Secrets of the Jedi bind-up by Jude Watson and the Science Fiction Book Club exclusive Republic Commando (2 in 1) by Karen Traviss.
