It's a little known and under-shared fact that the history of
May The 4th Be With You goes back to the early days of the history of
Star Wars - though bizarely its genesis has very little to do with any of the original movies. According to the apocrcryphal backstory to the phrase, it originally came from an advert that appeared in The London Evening News on May 4, 1979 that congratulated Margaret Thatcher on becoming the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Whatever its etymology is, this play on "May the Force be with you" has joined the growing list of
nonsecular commemorative days that give us another excuse to show off our fandom.
Putting the pre-amble to one side, the first drips of information on next month's
May The 4th Be With You event have been shared by
Brick Fanatics who have word that between May 1st and 4th the following online events will take place
- All Star Wars purchases will earn double VIP points
- There will be a sale on selected Star Wars sets
- Any purchases including a minimum of $$75/€75/£75 of LEGO Star Wars sets will receive an exclusive Battle of Death Star II (40407) set
Rumour has it the Death Star II gift with purchase will dovetail in with the release of the new exclusive Ultimate Collectors Series set. More information - including pictures - on this GWP will be released on April 25th.
