Questions for February 27, 2004
Q&A ArchiveSorry for the delay, not much of an excuse, but I have been super busy. Thanks to everyone that sent in a question for this up date, and all the others waiting on deck for the next time. On with the show:

This has nothing to do with collecting, I have the LEGO Star Destroyer 3000 piece set and it won’t stay together; every time you even slightly touch it, it crumbles. I’m fed up with it, is there any type of glue or something that would hold it together permanently? Also, wondering what type of paint would I use on the LEGO clone troopers so I can make them pilots for my republic gunship I got the AT-AT driver body I just need to know what type of paint to use? Ok thanks and may the force be with you
Well, I wouldn’t say it has nothing to do with collecting, I know a number of collectors having the same problem. If you are set on a more permanent solution there are several types/brands of super glue that should do the trick. I’d suggest working with a gel compound, rather than the “runnier” liquid form, and use all possible precautions to avoid skin contact etc… As for painting your mini-figs, you can use just about any kind of paint you’d like; it all depends on what method you feel most comfortable with and how involved you want the project to be. For more in-depth advice I urge you to seek out the customizing professionals at FFURG or in our Customs Forum. If you want more hands on help try asking the folks at your local art supply store or Aaron Brothers. They should be able to show you various tools that may help, or talk to you more about advantages of one kind of paint over the other. Good luck!

No Question Mark since Dec. 23rd. I hope everything is alright. I have two questions. 1. Why doesn't General Jan Dodonna have Fan's Choice #5 on his packaging like Capt. Antilles? I thought they were both Fan's Choice Figures. 2. I love the Cartoon Network figures. Do you think there will be more waves to come? I assume with the second group of episodes coming out soon there will be, but there are a lot of figures that could still me made from the first "Season". I personally think Kit Fisto and Padmé would make great figures. Answer when you get a chance. OUT Adrian in Baton Rouge
Everything is fine; I’ve just been extremely busy since the year began. Fortunately things have begun to settle into more of a pattern, and I’m finally able to get to your questions. So… While both Dodonna and Antilles were both in the same Fan Choice poll, Antilles is actually the one figure (by a slim margin) that came out on top. Because voting was close, Hasbro decided to go ahead and release the General as well, despite the fact that he didn’t actually “win.” That’s why Antilles gets the sticker, and Dodonna doesn’t. Although there have been rumors, there has been no official word on additional Clone Wars animated style figures. As a Target exclusive, it’s entirely possible something is in the works that Hasbro wouldn’t necessarily share at Toy Fair (or otherwise), but I have to think we’ve seen all we’re going to get. The Clone Wars series is about to wrap up, if there were going to be additional waves, we certainly should have heard something about themby now, or seen prototypes on eBay. Honestly, Hasbro and everyone else involved has to looking more towards gearing up for the Classic Trilogy DVD release and Episode III at this point. They would be nice, I certainly like the look of the line and can think of many other figures I’d like to have, but I don’t see much of a future there considering how these types of “limited” series have been handled in the recent past.

I purchased the Unleashed Darth Vader (Power) in Edmonton, AB Canada at my local Wal-Mart in Dec. 2002. My figure at the time cost me 9.99 CDN-a good price I think? Anyways, the packaging on the front does not have the Unleashed logo-just the background graphic and the multi-lingual descriptions on the back. My question is was that the packaging for the non-US figures or were all figures packaged the same way? -Jason
In checking with my Canadian teammates; Dave, and Shane both recall this figure, Anakin and Padmé all showing up in this manner. As such, I’m inclined to think this just something that shipped to a few markets outside the U.S. and not something entirely wide spread. Looking around eBay, I see plenty of auctions from the UK that have the logo on the front of the card – it may be an interesting variation, but I certainly don’t recall much of a fuss being made over this at the time the figures were originally released. One possible explanation for this could come from the initial wave that was released. When they first appeared the card backs had no logo at the top, the design was actually printed on a second strip that sat inside an additional step at the top of the blister. Sounds odd that they would have any of these printed by the time the third wave came around, but I guess stranger things have happened.

Can you tell me if there is any difference besides the packaging (paint, mold, decals, added accessories, etc.) on the Clone Wars AAT Tank and the Clone Wars Command Gunship? If they are the same vehicles as their predecessor, I'd rather take them off my checklist and put my money toward other SW items. Thanks for any help you can offer! -Bryan K. Day
Aside from some very slight deco changes on the AAT, more recognizable deco changes on the Gunship (as well as decal differences), the two vehicles are exactly like their predecessors. The AAT sports a different colored battle droid switch-a-roo plate in the cockpit, and the Gunship features new black and red markings, new decal colors, and a “kill” chart on the side of the craft. If these types don’t sell you on these versions, you’d do fine without them in your collection. Hope that helps.

How do you remove the visor and lightsaber blade from the Unleashed Luke Skywalker (Hoth pilot)? Is there a very safe way to remove his visor without causing any possible damage? I don't want to use brutal force on this very nice and very hard to find figure. If you know how to do it, please help. -Luke Hu
No trick really, the visor on mine popped right off and the saber plugs in just as the previous saber’s have. Frankly I was surprised it hadn’t been noticed or mentioned before I got the figure in my hands; it’s a cool feature I’d figure Hasbro would want to play it up. Unless I mysteriously ended up with one that Hasbro forgot to glue down, it was just a matter of pinching gently on the sides of the visor and removing it.

I enjoy your web site and while I am glad that LEGO is introducing a new millennium falcon, can you guys get them to offer an Ultimate Collector Series edition of the ship, that would have better detail and course much larger? The smaller ship just doesn’t seem right in terms of scale, detail, and overall appeal (except for maybe the price) Han’s ship deserves better….
While I wish we had that kind of influence over what products some of the Star Wars licensees decided to make, we don’t. We can certainly ask about the possibility of one, maybe put the bug in someone’s ear, but that decision has to ultimately come from the LEGO front office. Despite how cool a UCS Falcon would be, considering the troubles LEGO has had of late, it might be a while before we see them get around to this.

Man, I am dying to know, was that AT-AT at Toy Fair poseable, or was it stationary? -Kevin
I asked Dan, according to him (though they were not allowing anyone to touch the one on display) it did not look like a “working” (poseable) model, it appeared to be stationary. Darn shame, I would have thought a ‘prop replica’ would have been as posable as the one used in filming. Oh well, I guess there’s always Code 3…

I am a great fan of the Action Fleet line & have most of the vehicles & accessory packs, I was wondering how many Action Fleet vehicles never made it to production & what were they? If memory serves it was the Star Destroyer, Death Star, Mon Calamari Cruiser, Jedi Starfighter, Anakin’s Coruscant Speeder & Zam Wessell’s Speeder - were there any others? Also, is there any way we can lobby Hasbro to produce these unmade ones (even if it is in limited quantities or exclusives) - has anyone got a petition out there that we can sign up on, or is there someone we can write to at Hasbro to get our opinions out there? I think with a bit of a push maybe Hasbro would listen -Paul
In addition to the ones you mentioned from the recent line, there were also the Spider Droid and a repainted A-wing. From the previous line, put on hold after Episode I, there were two Pod Racers that made it very close to release, and a number of vehicles in process that didn’t. Images of these can be found in our Lost Toys Special Feature. Tooling for Boles Roor’s and Neva Kee’s Podracers, from what we’ve learned, was completed and the vehicles could possibly go into production should Hasbro see a market for them. Other vehicles in some form of pre-production were the Neimoidian Shuttle, Death Star II, a version of Star Destroyer, and two Series Alpha vehicles; the concept AAT and Podracer. As tooling was never complete on these (with the possible exception of the Star Destroyer) it’s unlikely Hasbro would start from scratch on the shuttle and Series Alpha vehicles so far removed from Episode I. The Death Star II stands a decent chance, but probably not the same design as the one we have on the site. If there were any others, and there’s always a chance there could be, they certainly never hit the radar.

I see that there is a Fans Choice figure poll going on ...asking fans what figure they want added to the original trilogy collection..... I think we need to get Wedge Antilles added... he is the only character from all three movies never to have a carded figure (never released by Kenner and only available thru Carrying Case and Cinema Scene). We have all these fringe characters, let’s see what you can do? -Eric
As I said above, I certainly wish we had that kind of influence over what is offered, but we don’t. Best we can do is bring the idea to the forefront and let you, the collectors, weigh in via forums, poll, or petitions. I couldn’t agree with you more, if Hasbro is going to go to the trouble of re-releasing some of there older figures for this year’s line, I certain can’t think of a better figure than Wedge; especially if they could use the same body they’re currently using for the Gold Leader figure. I’ll see if I can’t get a poll started on the subject with a few other good candidates and let the voters choose…

Love the site! I was curious if you knew if we will see the Super Articulated Trooper and Red Arc trooper again as I have yet to see them at retail. I know the new waves including Rappertunie have hit, so it makes me wonder if I will have to rely on eBay. Also, any possibility of another retailer picking up the hard to find Clone Wars two packs with Bonus Trooper? -Timponobi
Thanks! Hard to say with any certainty at this point; it almost appears as if Hasbro stopped shipping their Clone Wars line as not to interfere with the Cartoon Network toys. It may sound odd, they are different enough lines, but there’s something to be said for not competing with yourself. Having two different Clone Wars line at retail at the same time may have been viewed as counter productive… There’s a slim chance we may see the ‘Hasbro’ line return after the Cartoon Network line runs it’s course, but I have a feeling at this point that’s a little unlikely. If you missed out on these figures, you mat have a better chance at them by keeping a close watch on the KB close out sales. KB is bound to have cases of these in their inventory; we could easily see them sold off at one point or another. I don’t see much of a chance at all of another big retailer picking up the Clone Trooper 2-packs, but the one place I have seen them lately is Disneyland. Star Trader had several out last time I was in the park, and I imagine the various stores in Disney World would have them also. Maybe with the StarWarsShop.com site opening up we’ll see items like this offered, but for now we’ll have to wait and see.
Until next time...
