Battlefront II is nothing short of a massive undertaking. It has all the photo realistic visuals of the first Battlefront but now is enhanced with 4K/HDR visuals for those with the hardware, features characters, vehicles, and settings from all three eras of Star Wars, and finally has a single player campaign.
The single player campaign was good, could have been great if longer but don't fear. EA announced last week that an expansion is coming roughly around the time of
The Last Jedi, probably to avoid spoilers because there was some in the game as it currently stands. As we saw at Celebration this year, this is an all original story that starts on the ground of the Battle of Endor and goes to after the First Order rises. You get to play as Imperial special forces, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Lando, and more heroes from the universe as well as pilot some iconic vehicles. It is a very well-rounded experience with some awesome Star Wars moments. Definitely a must play for any fan, especially if you want to see some of Operation Cinder.
The multiplayer is an improvement in my opinion of the previous version. Gone are some of the more boring modes replaced with standard multi-staged elements or objective based gameplay. It almost feels like you are playing a story. For example, there is a segment where you can play as the rebels aboard a corvette that crashes into the Second Death Star during the Battle of Endor and you need to disable the tractor beams and turbolasers in order to escape, while the opposing team simply tries to kill you. The controversial aspect is the progression system, which is restrictive to trying to get credits from matches to buy star cards at random, and it is daunting. So people who logged 1,000 hours are going to have better stuff than you and just wreck you all the time. Fear not, EA just announced they are giving more credits per match and more freebies daily to help make players more competitive.
The newer mode here is Arcade, replacing the training missions from the first Battlefront. You can earn credits here (up to 1,500 each day now) and play around with weapons and characters. You can also split screen and play with a friend together or against.
All around this is a great Star Wars game and definitely worth a try. Especially since we found it on sale at Target this week for $40. Click
