As children advance in reading skills they become more confident and can transition from very short books that are light on text and heavy on illustrations to full length books that will keep their attention for hours on end.

Before that they need to be enthused and engaged so that they can build up their concentration, and chapter books - stories that are long enough to be divided into chapters, but not as long or complicated as a novel - are the perfect step. This bridging format still feature some illustrations and have different elements of reading and story writing to keep the child focused, and are perfect for children aged seven or eight.

Scholastic has catered for this developmental step with a growing series of LEGO Star Wars titles, and Son of LEGOscum has happily devoted a portion of his busy school vacation schedule of eat, sleep and play to compile some book reports to help Rebelscum readers get to grip with these books.

First in the LEGO Star Wars chapter book range are three original stories staring Yoda, the ultimate Jedi Master. who has 900 years' worth of stories to tell. This humorous and action-packed book features Obi-Wan, Yoda, and a new class of Padawans must battle Sith Lords in Podraces, fight bounty hunters in the Jedi Temple, and defeat stormtroopers in the swamps of Dagobah? Hilarious adventures will ensue!

The three stories in this were: 'The Phantom Podracer' which was about all the Padawans getting very bored on a field trip, sneaking off to go podracing and accidentally saving the galaxy; in 'Home, Swamp, Home' Yoda took Obi-Wan to a deserted planet to find a new home, but Obi-Wan didn't understand and thought they were trying to find a bounty hunter; and 'Jedi Temple of Doom' where there's a new kid (named Bob A Fett) in town trying to steal the Kyber Crystal from the Jedi Temple.
Sharing his thoughts on the book, Son of LEGOscum says:

I liked the quizzes - especially the last one because I got 8 out of 10. True Jedi! I preferred the second chapter story because Yoda played a prank on Obi-Wan and he got very confused. It was very funny. I like the illustrations - I really liked the illustrations - because some of them are funny, some of them are very funny and show people using the Force.

Darth Vader, greatest villian in the LEGO Star Wars brickverse, has decades of stories to tell! This humorous and action-packed book features all of our favorite heroes and villains in three brand new stories.

"Long ago, I was a good guy — one of the best Jedi in the galaxy. Until I became a Sith Lord and chased the Rebels across the stars. But my life isn’t all fun and games... It’s hard being a bad guy!" and so begins Darth Vader's recounting of his top three anecdotes of life as the ultimate Sith Lord.

In this second title in their series of LEGO Star Wars chapter books, Scholastic has combined three stories - as told told by Darth Vader - with a few short background articles, as well as a quiz, explaining the history of the Sith.

Each chapter was a different story - the first story was about Darth Sidieous and he had to do some chores but the clone troopers kept messing things up. Then Darth Vader goes on a mission to do some target practice with Black Squadron but crashes and finds a hidden base of Rebels. The third story is about Darth Vader and Darth Sidious who get stranded and make a disassembler ray to escape, but get ambushed by Luke and some Wookiees."
When asked to review the book, Son of LEGOscum provided three thoughts:

I wanted one long story instead of three short ones. I liked the second story the most - the Black Squadron is the opposite of Rogue Squadron but fly TIE Fighters instead. The third story was the shortest and my least favourite. It was a little confusing.

As a protocol droid, C-3PO prefers to stay out of trouble but this is easier said than done when his friends are always getting themselves in trouble. This humorous and action-packed book features all of your favourite Star Wars heroes and villains in three all-new stories that pits good against bad in the typical satirical LEGO style.

There were three chapters in this story. The first was 'Catch The Jedi': a Jedi and two Padawans were training and they bumped into a Sith Lord and had to play dodge ball to escape. This was a Rebels story. In 'Operation: Later Vader' Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie celebrate their first win but as always there's trouble in the galaxy and they have to fight Darth Vader. The third chapter was 'A Most Dangerous Droid' and it was about C-3PO who had some stuff. He came across Darth Vader and Darth Sidious and they attacked him. C-3PO got magnified - zzzZ - and he used all his stuff to defeat them.
By way of a review, Son of LEGOscum happily shared some comments on the book:

There was nothing I liked or didn't like about the book because it jumped from two different story lines of Star Wars. I really liked the Rebels story because it was mainly about dodge ball, which is my favourite game. I can't wait to learn more about Rebels and I hope there are more books like this. I loved the amazing battle scenes especially the one where the Padawan threw some balls at the Inquisitor for a distraction so they could escape.

Who do heroes turn to when they need to hide the plans to the Death Star? Who has what it takes to save his rebel friends from hungry aliens in a trash compactor? And who can always be counted on to get C-3PO into another 'fine mess'? R2-D2, of course! Join the galaxy's most famous astromech droid in this collection of hilarious and action-packed LEGO Star Wars stories in a galaxy far, far away...

R2-D2 and C-3PO need to save Luke because Boba Fett has kidnapped him to make him turn to the Dark Side. All the action is set on Tatooine and Hoth, and a spaceship called Redemption. Artoo and C-3PO get stranded on Tatooine and then have to go to Hoth to fight wampas then to Redemption to save Luke from the dreaded Boba Fett.
In his trademark three point review, Son of LEGOscum leaves us with these three thoughts:

I didn't understand when R2-D2 and C-3PO were in the cantina on Tatooine and then on the next page were on Hoth without telling us how they got there. I liked it when Boba Fett's cape shrunk in the sauna and also when Han Solo ordered a Solo burger and Millennium fries. I was really surprised that wampas had all kinds of food like vegetables - I didn't know they were that civilised!
