"StarWarsCards.Net is hosting another mini-auction to support a great charity cause. Currently, we are gathering the items that will be sold in our auction. Beginning approximately September 26th (or at the latest by October 1st) we will begin the actual auction itself, selling small Star Wars and trading card related items to help raise funds for ALS. StarWarsCards.Net is fighting to support a site member with a recent diagnosis of ALS in their family.
100% of all funds raised in the auction will be paid directly to ALS in the form of donations to be made at http://webkwc.alsa.org/goto/swtcgivesback
As with our past charity auctions, you will not be charged postage for items you win. Anyone may participate in the auctions, but you need a credit card to pay for your auction winnings through the ALSA website. All of our sale items are items donated by caring members of the Star Wars and/or card collecting community.
Please consider donating small items we can use in the auction (goal value $10 per auction lot), postage to help mail out the items, or watch our site (and this one) for the announcement of the start of the mini-auctions. Our goal is to start on September 26th and to end all of the auctions by October 15th (the official date of the walk). With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. Please spread the word about our event.
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or support our efforts in some way. StarWarsCards.Net is fighting to support a site member with a recent diagnosis of ALS in their family. The ALS Association supports research, but most importantly, they provide patient services for those who are struggling against ALS. Show support for our Star Wars Trading Cards family by supporting our efforts with a small item donation, participation as a buyer in the auctions, or by spreading the news about the upcoming auction to a friend.
You may contact me at trades@starwarscards.net if you have questions about donating small items to support our auction or if you would like to receive an e-mail when the auctions start. We have posted a forum for the auction here: http://starwarscards.net/eve/forums?q=Y&a=tpc&f=470306854&m=9284017997 where previews of items will be posted. To help everyone participate, we will have an assortment of fixed price as well as auction items, all with starting bids/prices in the $10 range."
