I was reading over tech tips today from Chris Pirillo in his weekly email, and noted an article on using Google to track packages. I had no idea Google did this. All you need is the number, you don't even need to know the carrier. It works with UPS, Fedex and USPS.
Give it a try using this package shipped to me today: 600069110003350
Note it will have a link to the Fedex tracking at the top of the page.
There's more to this as well, like put in a UPC number: 830395082929, though like this Shadow Stormtrooper Bobble-head, I tried a couple of items that it found the MFG, but no detail.
