Hello there,
Rebelscum fans! This week on the site, we’re looking at the planet of Jedha, which first appeared in the 2016 film
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Jedha is the site of one of Cassian Andor’s first adventures, but fans will soon get to see more from the maverick Rebel hero in the upcoming Disney+ series
Andor. Stay tuned throughout the week for more articles, insights, breakdowns, profile, and information on all the best merchandising items that you will want to get your hands on.
In the past few years, several beloved characters from
The Clone Wars and
Rebels have been brought into live-action. However, this precedent was set when Forest Whitaker was cast as Saw Gerrara in 2016’s
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Gerrara first appeared in the fifth season of
The Clone Wars. During a four-part storyline in the fifth season, Anakin, Ahsoka, and Rex travel to the planet to help an emerging Rebel movement.
The planet of Onderon had been under the control of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Anakin and Ahsoka are assigned to work with the planet’s natives in order to support their fight for freedom. It’s a personal mission for Ahsoka; she is reunited with her former lover, Lux Bonteri. Lux’s mother was a member of the Seperatist Senate that was murdered by Count Dooku. Lux had briefly joined Bo-Katan and the Mandalorians, but Ahsoka helped him escape. They shared a parting kiss in the fourth season.
However, Anakin and Ahsoka also enlist new allies, including the Gerrara siblings. Steela and Saw are determined to free their homeworld, but they’re cagey about handing over jurisdiction of the planet to the Republic. It’s a hard fought battle, and ultimately, Steela is killed in the conflict. This hardens Saw, who goes down a darker path. He distrusts the Republic, and isn’t sure that there is going to be much of a difference when they resume control of Onderon.
Rogue One’s opening scene reveals that Saw is an ally of Galen Erso. After Galen’s wife is killed by Orson Krennic, Galen is captured, and enlisted to serve as a chief consultant on the construction of the Death Star. Saw helps Jyn escape, and trains her to survive in the lawless galaxy. However, Jyn realizes that Saw is an extremist. Saw’s fearsome techniques quickly cause him to break from the Rebel Alliance leadership under Bail Organa and Mon Mothma.
Although Saw ultimately perishes in
Rogue One, fans still got to see more of his adventures before the battle at Jedha.
The Clone Wars voice actor Andrew Kishino returned to voice Saw in an episode of
The Bad Batch, which explored the early development of his rebel movement.
What do you think,
Rebelscum fans? Do you want to see Forest Whitaker return to play Saw Gerrera again? What do you think Saw is up to on the next season of
The Bad Batch?
