Hello there, Rebelscum fans! This week on the site, we’re looking at the planet of Jedha, which first appeared in the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Jedha is the site of one of Cassian Andor’s first adventures, but fans will soon get to see more from the maverick Rebel hero in the upcoming Disney+ series Andor. Stay tuned throughout the week for more articles, insights, breakdowns, profile, and information on all the best merchandising items that you will want to get your hands on.
Jedha was an interesting new planet in the Star Wars universe. Even though we don’t see any Jedi in Rogue One, the film explores the absence of the Jedi Order and how it has affected the galaxy. The Jedi are thought to be extinct, but a few brave survivors have kept the spirit of the Light side of the Force alive on Jedha. Check out our Force Facts on Jeha, Rogue One, and the upcoming Andor series.
Although the first season has yet to be renewed, Lucasfilm and Disney have already confirmed that Andor will run for at least three seasons.
The visually stunning devastation of Jedha is just one of the many reasons that Rogue One received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects. Ironically, it lost to another Disney production, 2016’s live-action remake of The Jungle Book. The Jungle Book was directed by future The Mandalorian creator Jon Faverau.
Originally, the four-part Onderon storyline was set to be the season five premiere of The Clone Wars. However, Lucasfilm decided to air the episode “Revival” first in order to capitalize on the popularity of Darth Maul.
The fifth season of The Clone Wars was the first to swap the show’s airtime. The series ended its Friday night slot, and began airing on Sunday mornings.
Genevieve O'Reilly is set to return as Mon Mothma in Andor. O’Reilly first played Mothma in a deleted scene from Revenge of Sith, which explored the early formation of the Rebel Alliance. Mothma and Organa work with Padme to start a resistance movement against Palpatine’s emergency powers before the Empire is born.
The deleted scenes from Revenge of the Sith featuring the Rebel Alliance are only some of the moments that were cut from the final film. Lucas’ first cut was reportedly over four hours long.
One of Cassian Andor actor Diego Luna’s earliest roles was in the 2004 comedy The Terminal, which was directed by George Lucas’ best friend, Steven Spielberg.
One of Tony Gilroy’s first writing credits was on the 1998 disaster film Armageddon. Among his co-writers was The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams.
Gareth Edwards was already a massive Star Wars fan before Rogue One. He famously traveled to the original film’s set in Tunisia on a special vacation.
Before Felicity Jones was cast as Jyn Erso, Tatiana Maslany, Kate Mara, and Rooney Mara were all considered. Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul nearly played Cassian before Luna was cast.
