It's not often that the sequel is better than the original, and just like The Empire Strikes Back the new Star Wars Season’s Greetings silver coin improves upon Fireplace Vader the piano player which came out in time for Christmas last year.
The note is individually numbered and sits within a unique holder, designed like a Christmas card. Inside is an illustration of Chewbacca and his gift, accompanied by the humorous words “Arrrrrrgh! Socks again”. This, in turn, is packaged inside a high-quality, Star Wars themed box, making it an affordable and quirky gift idea for the Star Wars fan in your life.
Depicting Han, Luke, Leia and Chewbacca in choral costumery raising their voice, quite possibly to Christmas in the Stars, the image used is one that canny Star Wars fans will recognise as similar to the Life Day celebration in The Star Wars Holiday Special. This never-to-be-repeated TV variety special was broadcast on November 17th, 1978 and famously introduced Boba Fett as well as Carrie Fisher singing about "a day of joy we all can share."
Surprisingly, given how much the Holiday Special has been suppressed since its first and only airing over 40 years ago, this image is on a holiday style guide provided by Lucasfilm. With the admission that John Favreau was allowed to draw on (and include references to) the Holiday Special in the upcoming The Mandalorian series, could this be a softening of hearts at the House of Mouse?
Whether you are celebrating the time-honoured traditional Wookiee holiday or looking for a unique Christmas present, this Star Wars Season’s Greetings coin is a perfect gift. Officially licensed, these are a limited edition with only 10,000 coin notes available worldwide. Each note has a unique serial number printed on it to confirm its authenticity. A very special, and affordable, precious metal collectible for all Star Wars fans.
