Hey there, Rebelscum fans! This week on the site we’re looking at the legendary Kessel Run that makes up a pivotal sequence in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. If you haven’t already, make sure to read about the origins of the film and the importance of the Kessel Run in our “Expand Your Mind” article. Stay tuned throughout the week for more articles, insights, videos, and guides to the best merchandising content that collectors will want to be looking for.

Although Han Solo’s origin story finally got a big screen treatment with Solo: A Star Wars Story, the early adventures of everyone’s favorite Corellian smuggler are a subject that Star Wars authors have been energized about since the earliest days of the Expanded Universe. While much of the Legends content introduces events that contradict with the events in Solo, they still offer an interesting take that fans will enjoy checking out. Here are some of the best Han Solo literary adventures worth reading.

  • The Han Solo Adventures: Han Solo at Star’s End (1979), Han Solo’s Revenge (1979), Han Solo and the Lost Legacy (1980) - Brian Daley’s trilogy of Han adventures were among the first Expanded Universe novels ever, following 1978’s Splinter of the Mind’s Eye. The three standalone adventures explore Han and Chewie once they’re an established team in smuggling adventures set before A New Hope.

  • The Han Solo Trilogy: The Paradise Snare (1997), The Hutt Gambit (1997), Rebel Dawn (1998) - A.C. Crispin’s trilogy directly tells Han’s origins, and introduces many of the same story beats that would later be used in Solo, including Han’s early adventures on Corellia, his path as an Imperial pilot, his decision to save Chewbacca, his early interactions with the Rebel Alliance, the Kessel Run, and a romance that shaded his cynical ways.

  • Shadow Games (2011) - Han and Chewbacca join the traveling team of a Holostar singer named Javul Charn. In many ways, it's a spiritual prequel to the legendary 1996 project Shadows of the Empire, as Han is paired up with fellow Corellian smuggler Dash Rendar and faces the wrath of Black Sun’s Prince Xizor.

  • Scoundrels (2013) - It’s Ocean’s Eleven in the Star Wars universe in this heist adventure from Expanded Universe legend Timothy Zahn. Han and Chewie manage a heist team that also includes Lando Calrissian immediately after the pairs’ heroism in the events of A New Hope.

  • Millennium Falcon (2008) - A much older Han travels with Leia and their granddaughter Allana Solo shortly after the death of Allana’s father, Jacen Solo. The weeping family raises their spirits by looking into the origins of their famous ship and contacting its past owners. It also helps explain the ship’s appearance in Revenge of the Sith.

  • Crucible (2013) - One of the final Star Wars Legends books released, Crucible goes deeper into the timeline with events following the Fate of the Jedi series set 41 years after the ending of Return of the Jedi. It follows the original trio of Han, Luke, and Leia who run into enemies of Han’s past that have reemerged.
