Hey there,
Rebelscum fans!
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones celebrates its 20th anniversary this summer. This week, we’re looking at the epic arena battle during the film’s conclusion. We’ll be celebrating the second film in the prequel trilogy all week on the site, so make sure to check out all of the articles, insights, videos, and merchandising content we’ll be adding!
The Phantom Menace teased the larger Jedi Order that had only been hinted at during the original trilogy. However, it was
Attack of the Clones that showed the Jedi in action. When Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme are trapped by the Geonosians, Mace Windu and over 200 Jedi show up for an impromptu rescue. The battle helps spotlight many of the brave Jedi who would go on to have adventures in the Expanded Universe. Among them is Kit Fisto, who shoots the audience a grin after using the force to push over C-3PO. He’s having as much fun as we are!
Kit Fisto is a Nautalon from the planet Glee Anslem. He is among the few survivors of the Battle of Geonosis, and served as a General in the clone wars. Although Fisto is easily dispatched by Emperor Palpatine in
Revenge of the Sith, he had been fleshed out in the Clone Wars multimedia project. Fans got an extended look at Fisto’s underwater fighting abilities in the fifth chapter of the animated micro-series
Star Wars: Clone Wars.Fisto’s story was expanded in the
Republic comics. Due to his underwater breathing abilities, Fisto was a key part of the defense of Kamino operation. He also formed a close friendship, and borderline romance, with fellow Jedi Master Aayla Secura. In the novel
The Cestus Deception, Fisto and Obi-Wan are tasked to prevent the planet Ord Cestus from joining the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Fisto became one of the pivotal characters on
The Clone Wars, and was voiced by Phil Lamarr. Fisto is a member of the Jedi Council, but he’s often seen only in hologram projections because he is so frequently called to the front lines. Fisto fans got an entire episode devoted to the character in season one. In “Lair of Grievous,” Fisto and his former apprentice Nahdar Vebb track Nute Gunray to a secret location.
Fisto is initially overjoyed to see his former apprentice grow into a Jedi Knight. However, he learns that Vebb has been corrupted by the war effort. Vebb is brash, and prioritizes combat achievements over discretion. He is eager to face off against Grievous. Unfortunately, the droid general pins down Vebb and slays him. It's a heartbreaking moment for Fisto. Fisto and Grievous have an exciting duel, and Fisto makes sure his apprentice is remembered. He steals back Vebb’s lightsaber from Grievous before he can add it to his collection.
Fisto also plays a major part in a storyline that brought
The Clone Wars back to Mon Calamari. Fisto and his Jedi allies join the Mon Calamari council in their battles against the Quarren, who have sided with the Separatists.
