Hey there, Rebelscum fans! Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones celebrates its 20th anniversary this summer. This week, we’re looking at the epic arena battle during the film’s conclusion. We’ll be celebrating the second film in the prequel trilogy all week on the site, so make sure to check out all of the articles, insights, videos, and merchandising content we’ll be adding!

Anakin and Obi-Wan have a difficult relationship in Attack of the Clones. While they share some humorous exchanges, Anakin feels that his master does not entirely trust him. They frequently bicker and argue. However, Anakin begins to bond with his master during the arena battle. They are both pushed to their physical and emotional limits during the epic showdown on Geonosis.

Although we don’t get to see Anakin’s training in the films, a series of popular young adult novels focused on Anakin’s relationship with his master, as well as Obi-Wan’s relationship with Qui-Gon Jinn. Star Wars author Jude Watson wrote several series that took a look at the early missions from both sets of Jedi.

  • Jedi Apprentice (1999-2002): This eighteen-part series explores how Obi-Wan is selected, trained, and essentially raised by Qui-Gon Jinn. Obi-Wan begins as a young, angry youngling, who is not all that different from Anakin. The series introduced the character of Xanatos, Qui-Gon’s former apprentice that turned to the Dark side.

  • Jedi Quest (2001-2004): Watson’s follow-up series focused on Anakin’s training during the ten year stretch between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. Xanatos’ son Granta Omega reemerges as the villain of the series.

  • Legacy of the Jedi (2003): This four-part anthology series explore Dooku’s days as a youngling, his training of Qui-Gon, a key adventure with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, and one of the last missions between Obi-Wan and Anakin before Anakin is knighted. Dooku’s rival trainee, Lorian Nod, appears throughout.

  • Secrets of the Jedi (2005): It's all romance in this two-part standalone adventure; Qui-Gon and the Jedi Master Tahl form a relationship that tests the Jedi Code, and Obi-Wan has his own romance with the Jedi Siri Tachi. Obi-Wan, of course, is unaware of Anakin’s secret marriage to Padme.

  • The Last of the Jedi (2005-2008): In The Last of the Jedi, Anakin’s rival apprentice Ferus Olin chooses to leave the Jedi Order after another apprentice is killed by Granta Omega. Ferus survived Order 66, and teams up with Obi-Wan in this adventure set after the events of Revenge of the Sith.
